From Packaging Request to Formulation Support: A New Brand's First Private Label Hyaluronic Acid Serum

Client:

European Personal Care Brand (name withheld)

Industry:

Skincare — Personal Care

Region:

Europe (Luxembourg)

Duration:

November 2023 – May 2024 (~6 months)

This client is a Luxembourg-based personal care brand launching their first product. They approached Enrich Lab in November 2023 to source custom packaging for what would become a private-label hyaluronic acid serum — a request that, over the course of the project, grew into full formulation support. Rather than starting formulation from a blank page, the client brought an existing product direction and asked Enrich Lab to evaluate it, refine it, and pair it with the right packaging.

[2col]Background

Our Approach

Starting from packaging, not formulation. The client's first request was for cosmetic packaging for a skincare serum line. Enrich Lab reviewed the client's material and dispensing requirements and confirmed available options across bottle materials, sizes, and closures before formulation was discussed. As a new business bringing its first product to market, the client's scope expanded from packaging sourcing into full formula evaluation as the project progressed.

Formula Smple Comparison

Evaluating the client's existing formula direction. The client sent physical samples of their current hyaluronic acid serum, made from two different formula variants. Enrich Lab's formulation team evaluated both for hydrating performance and moisturizing feel, and recommended which one to move forward with for sample production. A reference sample was prepared in parallel to compare texture and absorption side by side, rather than taking the client's assessment at face value.

Weighing packaging trade-offs together. The client initially preferred glass over plastic for sustainability reasons, but raised concerns about breakage and shipping weight. Enrich Lab provided both material options for direct comparison, and the client made the final call — glass — with the trade-offs clearly understood upfront.

Vitamin C Formula Refinement Request

Responding to a formula refinement request mid-development. Partway through development, the client asked whether vitamin C could be added to the base formula. Vitamin C was added to the final version.

The challenge

This project did not start with a blank formulation brief. The client already had a working hyaluronic acid serum and wanted Enrich Lab to build on it rather than replace it — which meant the usual full-development process had to adapt to a client-led starting point.

  • Two existing formula variants needed side-by-side evaluation, not just a review of the client's own notes.
  • The client's packaging preference (glass, for sustainability reasons) came with real trade-offs in breakage risk and shipping cost that needed to be resolved before production.
  • A formula change request — adding vitamin C — arrived mid-development, after the base direction was already agreed.

Each of these required a fast, evidence-based response rather than a lengthy R&D cycle.

The solution

Final Sample

Enrich Lab confirmed the formula direction, finalized packaging in black glass bottles with pump dispensers, and incorporated the client's vitamin C request into the final formula. The client confirmed an initial order of 2,000 units at 50ml. Production began in January 2024, and the completed order shipped in May 2024.

The case shows that Enrich Lab's role isn't limited to greenfield formulation — brands with an existing product direction can bring it to Enrich Lab for evaluation, refinement, and production, without starting over.
